Configuration Mode

Many Point System devices have configuration jumpers or switches, including one to enable or disable software management.

When the Configuration Mode switch/jumper is in the hardware mode:

  • The configuration of the device is set exclusively by the other switches/jumpers
  • The Configuration Mode MIB variable reads hardware(2)
  • The configuration can be read, but not changed, by the Point System Management Module
  • This is a very secure and generally “bulletproof” way to manage your network.

When the Configuration Mode switch/jumper is in the software mode:

  • The configuration of the device is stored in non-volatile memory on the device
  • The Configuration Mode MIB variable reads software(1)
  • The configuration can be read and changed by the Point System Management Module
  • This is a much more convenient way to manage your network.
