A smart city utilizes IoT sensors, actuators, and information technology to connect and power components across the city impacting every layer of a city from under the streets to the air citizens breathe. At the most fundamental level, smart buildings deliver useful building services that make occupants more productive by converging building automation systems (BAS) with IP smart LED lighting. The proliferation of IoT and other non-core LAN IP devices, require a physical separation of two very different networks. A new Utility network (uLAN) is emerging that powers and connects smart building and smart city technology to deliver new levels of visibility and actionable information.
