CHALLENGE: Utilize existing out-of-band fiber-optic network to securely manage critical network distribution and core devices

The university’s IT leaders wanted a secure, integrated OOBM solution with remote cloud-based management to maximize network uptime and reduce job-site visits.

They were challenged to find an integrated OOBM solution to enable:

  • Remote management from virtually anywhere via a secure cloud platform
  • Remote set-up and configuration of OOBM devices and software

SOLUTION: ConsoleFlow and EMG 8500

To meet its objective of having a secure, integrated OOBM solution, the University of Cambridge chose Lantronix’s ConsoleFlow™ and EMG 8500 edge management gateway. The university has an OOBM fiber network that stretches across the city of Cambridge.

The university’s IT team uses ConsoleFlow, a cloud-based device management platform, to manage the EMG 8500 gateways at remote locations in their repair van fleet.

Lantronix’s EMG 8500 edge management gateway delivers edge connectivity for the university’s remote locations, including its IT lab. The IT team can remotely configure and test network devices in the lab from virtually anywhere.

Lantronix EMG 8500 gateways are installed in the university’s installation/repair van fleet. Additionally, they are able to use ConsoleFlow to remotely troubleshoot and resolve issues as well as update firmware.
