At one of the manufacturing plants I deal with, they have a PC based controller in a pump house and it always seem to go on the fritz in the middle of the night. When I schlep my body down there, it’s usually a Windows crash (this system stopped updating with NT 3.51). Cycling power does the trick. It dawned on me that if I installed a Lantronix Spider Duo with the optional power control unit, I could take over the keyboard, video, and mouse remotely from my easy chair, figure out what’s going on, and fix it (including reboot as necessary). It’s fully external so even if the blue screen of death is up, I’m still in control. Life’s a lot easier with a Spider in the pump house.
