“Can I Take That CWDM Device Off Your Hands?”

You know you’re doing something right when a customer visiting your tradeshow booth listens attentively to your presentation and then asks on the spot if they can buy the product sample you are displaying.

Dell-World-2015-Booth4That’s exactly what happened this month during Dell World 2015 in Austin. Our Transition Networks team had just finished demonstrating our CWDM (coarse wave division multiplexing) solution. The visitor was so impressed, they wanted to take the CWDM device back to work and install it immediately.

Transition Networks recently became a certified technology partner in Dell’s Technology Partner Program. Attending the Dell World conference for the first time as a Dell partner was extremely rewarding for us. We were able to create increased awareness for many end-users and resellers who had never heard of our secure, reliable fiber integration products.

Although the major themes at Dell World included mobility, storage, cyber security and cloud networking – there was immense interest in CWDM technology and a majority of our conversations were focused on the CWDM products developed by Transition Networks.

Turns out that both partners and potential customers alike were drawn in by the capacity of CWDM to address fiber exhaustion, create additional bandwidth on existing fiber networks, and alleviate the high cost of laying more fiber. Two attendees had actually just completed a big fiber install and both commented on how Transition Networks could have saved them a lot of money.

How CWDM Works

CWDM multiplexes multiple optical carrier signals into a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths (colors) of light to carry each individual signal.

CWDM increases fiber capacity in 4, 8, or 16 channel increments. By increasing the channel spacing between wavelengths on the fiber, CWDM gives our customers a simple, affordable method of carrying up to 16 channels on a single fiber.

When coupled with Transition Networks’ industry-leading media conversion products, CWDM can be utilized to transmit multiple protocols over an existing fiber link.

Benefits of Transition Networks CWDM solutions include:

  • Economical means of relieving fiber exhaustion
  • Passive equipment; protocol and speed transparent
  • Plug-and-play installation requiring no configuration
  • Scalability to grow fiber capacity, as needed
  • Saves costs of trenching, pulling, or leasing new fiber

All in all it was a great first experience for the Transition Networks team at Dell World. We established new relationships with companies and end-users from around the globe, across all verticals. And the visitor who wanted the CWDM device? Well, they didn’t get to pack that in their luggage, but they did sign on to become one of our valuable new Transition Networks customers.
