Case Study : ISONAS Security Systems

Wireless Networking Technology opens doors for Security Manufacturer

Challenge:
ISONAS needed a wireless solution for its advanced security control IP door readers that was flexible, easy-to-install and could use software via a network.

Solution:
Using WiPort® embedded device server technology from Lantronix, ISONAS IP door readers are now able to connect directly to a standard 802.11b wireless access point and eliminate the need for costly highmaintenance security control panels and expensive wiring.

Benefit:
What was traditionally a complicated configuration and installation is now as simple as installing wireless access points on a network, enabling businesses to easily adopt access control, time and attendance or emergency response technology.

Honeywell incorporates Lantronix's SecureBox SDS1100 into its Enterprise Buildings architecture. As wireless networking becomes increasingly more mainstream, industries are demanding that it become part of the way they do business. Wireless networking technology should offer more than just remote access to a network. It should also be easy to install and configure. A pioneer and leading developer of panel-free, IP door readers and controllers, ISONAS Security Systems provides advanced IP door control solutions that offer superior real-time access control enabled by a true network appliance.

Hardware-based door systems, which are dependent on old-style control panels, require onsite maintenance and repair. When ISONAS’ readers are connected to a network using an embedded Lantronix XPort® device server and communicating with ISONAS’ Crystal Matrix Software™, the intelligence managing the door access is controlled by the software. The software instructs the reader/controller what to do and the controller processes all the commands. This means that access can be changed and maintained by an authorized user from anywhere at anytime via the network!

The Situation:
ISONAS Wanted To Provide Its Customers With A Cost-Effective And Easy-To-Use Wireless Door Reader

To provide their customers with even more flexibility ISONAS needed to develop a true wireless IP door reader that could connect directly to a standard wireless access point. They also wanted to simplify the otherwise complicated configuration and installation traditionally associated with door readers. By adding wireless connectivity, ISONAS could reduce the costs of extensive cabling and the costs of repair and maintenance of a traditional security control panel.

The Solution:
WiPort Technology Easily Enables ISONAS Door Readers To Be Wirelessly Connected To The Network

By incorporating the WiPort embedded device server from Lantronix into its new door readers, ISONAS not only met its wireless networking needs, it also found a solution that made configuration and installation easier for its customers. Utilizing WiPort, ISONAS’ door reader controller was equipped with an industry standard 802.11b wireless protocol, making it compatible with virtually any wireless access point on the market. In addition, WiPort’s WPA and 128-bit WEP encryption capabilities ensure secure communications between the IP door reader and the network. The reader software from ISONAS allows network administrators to directly monitor and control an almost unlimited number of door readers across the enterprise.

The Result:
True Wireless Technology, Easy Installation For Customers And An Award-Winning Industry First For ISONAS

Together, ISONAS and Lantronix provided the access control and security industry with a solution that demonstrates advanced innovation in secure access technology. The Isonas ClearNet™ Wireless IP Reader was voted one of Security Sales & Integration magazines “Hot New Products” and a “New Product of the Year” Finalist by Access Control and Security Systems magazine. Customers can enjoy true wireless door reader technology that is easy to install and provides improved flexibility for access control, time and attendance or emergency response technology compared to traditional industry offerings. As a highly integrated solution, WiPort also allowed ISONAS to bring their product to market in a fraction of the time that would otherwise be required.

“By merging technologies with Lantronix, we’ve taken the value of our products to a whole new level by attaching them directly to the network,” said Ken Butte, president of ISONAS, also stating that WiPort actually enabled the company to offer a breakthrough product for its industry. “Because these new products make it so much easier to install and configure, we expect demand for our technology to grow into areas we’ve not been able to reach in the past.”
